Craignure Bunkhouse

A new build bunkhouse sited adjacent to the 18th c. Craignure Inn (Category B Listed Building) in the village of Craignure providing four mixed dormitories sleeping four and six people each with ensuite shower rooms. The shared kitchen, dining and living room command views to the bay. The hostel also provides laundry facilities for guests and a drying room. There is a self contained manager’s flat located in the attic roof space above the bunkhouse. The heating is provided by a log fired biomass boiler and solar thermal panels.

The design was intended to enhance the village while providing a relatively inexpensive facility for use by visitors to the island.

The form of the building responds to its location beneath the cliff face and with a striking sea view to the north seen from the communal area of the building and with the sleeping accommodation tucked behind in a secluded garden area.
